“Atrocious” United don’t deserve top-four

Rangnick braced for derby challenge

Manchester United’s form has been described as “atrocious” by Betfred pundit and ex-United youth player Micky Gray.

He told The Betfred Football Show that none of Ralf Rangnick’s squad could say they have had a good season come the conclusion in May.

Gray went as far as to say that the Reds don’t deserve to finish in that all-important fourth spot ahead of Arsenal in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, the 47-year-old Sunderland legend was on the fence when asked who will win the title, believing that Liverpool are benefitting from having strikers able to win games while City can dominate possession but have failed to score on multiple occasions this season.

Gray backs wins for both Liverpool, who host Watford, and City, away at Burnley, on Saturday, pointing out that Liverpool going top of the table, albeit temporarily, “sends out a message” to their rivals.

He also opted for a score draw in the game between Norwich-Brighton on Saturday – and for Palace-Arsenal on Monday.

He reckons West Ham will pile further pressure on Frank Lampard at lowly Everton by winning on Sunday, and believes Spurs will progress in the top-four race with a win over Newcastle on the same day.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, Gray’s also backing wins for Leeds against Southampton, Chelsea against Brentford and Aston Villa at Wolves.

Regarding the Old Firm derby in Scotland, Gray – who has played in this fixture while spending a year on loan for Celtic – reckons it’ll be a Rangers win… but believes Celtic will secure the title.

“It will be tight, but I’m going for the home side,” was Gray’s verdict.
