Mercedes chief Toto Woolf says his side cannot afford to get complacent ahead of the British Grand Prix despite an improved showing in Canada.
Compared to previous years, Mercedes have endured a tough campaign so far, failing to win any of the last nine races.
Despite a terrible start to the season, Lewis Hamilton (12/1 British GP Race Winner) managed to finish third at the Canadian Grand Prix last time out, just one place ahead of teammate George Russell (12/1).
Neither of the Mercedes pair though are in the top three in the drivers’ rankings, with Russell in fourth, 64 points behind leader Max Verstappen, with Hamilton down in sixth, 34 points adrift of his team-mate.
The Mercedes car showed signs of progress in Montreal, although it is worth noting that Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc did start from the back of the grid, while Sergio Perez retired due to a gearbox problem.

With that in mind, Woolf has tried to play down expectations as both Hamilton and Russell prepare to race in front of their home crowd.
He told reporters: “Canada was our fifth podium of the season, and we were happy to collect solid points. While we can be pleased with the flashes of speed that the W13 showed, there’s still a mountain to climb.
“A lot of work is needed to get to the front, but we have a clearer direction now. We’re focused on finding more and more performance as the season progresses.
“We know the top two teams have a considerable advantage. Our challenge is to close that gap. Silverstone has been good to us in the past; we have some improvements coming, and it’s a smoother track. We’re aiming to take another step forward.”
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen (1/7 Drivers’ Championship Outright) continues to lead the way at the top of the standings, holding a 46-point lead over teammate Sergio Perez (25/1), while Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc (6/1) is a further three points back in third.
