Champions League Odds: Liverpool book quarter-final ticket

Champions League reaction

After an eventful night under the lights at Anfield, Liverpool have booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the Champions League and are now 7/2 (from 4/1) to win the competition.

Holding a 2-0 aggregate lead going into the evening, it was all about holding Inter Milan at bay for Jurgen Klopp’s side tonight. That was the plan, anyway…

Milan started well, making their intentions clear from the first whistle. It was evident from a very early stage that Simone Inzaghi’s men were not going to lie down and accept defeat.

Despite that, the first-half was one of few chances for both sides, and quite frankly little action – but the second-half certainly made up for that.

Both teams had their fair share of chances, and the game really opened up after Mo Salah hit the post just after the 50th minute mark.

Inter found the goal they’d been threatening to get after about an hour on the clock, with an absolute screamer from Lautaro Martinez who up until that point had been frustrated by Virgil van Dijk all night.

The visitors’ joy was short-lived, however, as Alexis Sanchez got himself sent off for a reckless challenge that resulted in a second yellow just a couple of minute later.

From thereon, Liverpool saw the game out professionally to book their ticket to the next round of the competition.

Meanwhile, it was an historic night in Germany as Robert Lewandowski recorded the quickest hat-trick in Champions League history as Bayern Munich annihilated RB Salzburg 7-1 at the Allianz Arena.

It took just 12 minutes for the 33-year-old to get on the scoresheet, bagging his side’s first penalty of the game. He converted their next just under 10 minutes later – and two minutes after that he secured the hat-trick. There was just 10 minutes and 22 seconds between his first and third goal – as mentioned, an historic feat.

Bayern ran riot from there, scoring another four and conceding just the one consolation goal to earn their place in the quarter-finals.

The German side have been cut from 9/2 to 4/1 to win the Champions League after tonight’s emphatic victory.
