The Netherlands will have to do without their all-time record goalscorer Vivianne Miedema as they prepare to face Portugal at Leigh Sports Village on Wednesday night (Netherlands 2/5, draw 18/5, Portugal 13/2 – Match Result).
Miedema has tested positive for Covid and the 25-year-old is set to spend the next few days in isolation before returning to the squad when she provides a negative result.
It means the Arsenal forward will miss the 20:00 kick-off with Portugal, as will goalkeeper Sari van Veenendaal who has been ruled out for the remainder of Euro 2022 with a shoulder injury picked up against Sweden.
Portugal are expected to be unchanged from their 2-2 draw against Switzerland in what is a wide-open Group C following two stalemates in the opening round of fixtures.

Wednesday night will also see Sweden return to action when they face the Swiss at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane in the 17:00 kick-off (Sweden 1/7, draw 13/2, Switzerland 16/1 – Match Result).
Switzerland’s preparation for the clash in South Yorkshire has been far from ideal, with eight of their players suffering from a stomach bug which caused training on Monday to be cancelled.
Team doctor Martin Schober provided an update on Tuesday and was hopeful the outbreak will not impact the players for the clash with the Swedes.
“The majority of the affected players and staff members are on the mend. We are happy that we have received travel clearance and can use today’s training opportunity,” Schober said.
