England Cricket Odds: Buttler bids to maintain Morgan's momentum

Ahead of his first match in charge against India, new England white-ball skipper Jos Buttler says he wants a smooth transition and has told his side to play in the same way as they did under Eoin Morgan (Match betting – England 8/11, India 11/10).

Morgan, who led England to World Cup success in 2019, made the decision last week to quit international cricket amid ongoing injuries and poor form.

In his two innings during the three-match series against the Netherlands last month, the 35-year-old was twice dismissed for a duck, while his fellow batsmen were racking up the runs.

Now, Buttler, one of those in-form batsmen, has been promoted to the post of permanent captain after serving as Morgan’s deputy when the Dubliner was unavailable for selection.

There is also a new coach with Australian Matthew Mott in charge as England look to try and win this year’s T20 World Cup (3/1- Tournament outright) in Australia.

Next year also sees England set out to defend their World Cup (3/1 – Tournament win outright) crown which was won in dramatic fashion against New Zealand at Lord’s in 2019.

Buttler says he is not going to change the aggressive style of play ahead of the first match of the three-part series against India, starting at the Ageas Bowl.

“There’s not much at the moment that needs changing. I see the game in exactly the same way as Eoin,” said the 31-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman.

“I want us to play in exactly the same fashion – to be really positive, really aggressive, and not afraid of failure,” he added.

“There’s a clear identity that is going to outlast Eoin, to outlast me, and will outlast whoever follows on from me as well.”

England then play India at Edgbaston on Saturday before facing the tourists at Trent Bridge on Sunday.
