Over the course of its memorable eight-year run, Game of Thrones was one of the most popular shows on TV. HBO’s adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s fantasy drama novels received all sorts of critical acclaim between its debut in April 2011 and its conclusion in May of 2019.
Unfortunately, many hardcore GoT fans were left unsatisfied by the end of the series. Showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss took their fair share of criticism despite the show’s unprecedented success, but that didn’t stop HBO from ordering a whopping five Game of Thrones spinoffs to develop in the future.
One of those eagerly-awaited spinoffs – House of the Dragon – is set to hit the airwaves this weekend.
As you may expect, entertainment betting sites have you covered when it comes to House of the Dragon betting odds.
House of the Dragon Release Date
HBO’s newest installment in the Game of Thrones universe will debut on Sunday, August 21st. The first episode is set to air at 9 pm ET.
The first episode, entitled “The Heirs of the Dragon,” was directed by Miguel Sapochnik.
Sapochnik previously won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series back in 2016 for his work on two episodes in Game of Thrones’ sixth season. Fans will fondly remember Sapochnik’s work on “The Battle of the Bastards,” which featured the highly-anticipated battle between Jon Snow and Ramsay Bolton.
Sapochnik directed a total of six episodes of Game of Thrones over three different seasons, so the House of the Dragon debut is surely in good hands.
The second episode, which will air on Sunday, August 28th, is called “The Rogue Prince.”
The only other details we know, as of now, are that the first season of House of the Dragon will feature a total of 10 episodes airing each Sunday for the next several weeks.
HBO has also already ordered a second season of this series, which began the development process back in May.
Here are the premiere dates for each of the 10 episodes in the upcoming first season of House of the Dragon:
Episode 1 – August 21st
Episode 2 – August 28th
Episode 3 – September 4th
Episode 4 – September 11th
Episode 5 – September 18th
Episode 6 – September 25th
Episode 7 – October 2nd
Episode 8 – October 9th
Episode 9 – October 16th
Episode 10 October 23rd
House of the Dragon Details
The events of House of the Dragon are set to take place 200 years before Game of Thrones. This series is reportedly loosely based on Martin’s novel Fire & Blood, and it will detail the famed House Targaryen.
Of course, Game of Thrones fans are quite familiar with the exploits of Daenerys Targaryen, who – spoiler alert! – dies after going mad toward the end of the series.
Daenerys was one of the last living members of House Targaryen, the family that ruled Westeros for about 300 years before they were overthrown.
House of the Dragon will give us a glimpse into how things were during the halcyon days of the family’s rule. The new series will star Paddy Considine as King Viserys, the fifth king of the Targaryen dynasty. Matt Smith will portray Prince Daemon Targaryen, while Emma D’Arcy is Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen.
None of the original cast members are officially confirmed to reprise their roles in House of the Dragon, though HBO could certainly throw a few curveballs along the way.
House of the Dragon Odds
Who Will Sit on the Iron Throne In Season 1?
Aegon Targaryen (-110)
Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (+100)
Prince Daemon Targaryen (+220)
Alicent Hightower (+300)
Corlys Valaryon (+1000)
Otto Hightower (+1200)
House of the Dragon will detail the civil war that explodes between members of House Targaryen vying for the throne after Viserys’ death.
The wording with this prop bet is a little weird, but it’s safe to assume we’re betting on which character will be sitting atop the Iron Throne at the end of season one.
As you can see, Aegon Targaryen is a decent -110 favorite to sit on the Iron Throne by the end of the first season, per the latest House of the Dragon odds.

Aegon is King Viserys’ younger brother and Prince of Westeros. Rhaenyra is Viserys’ daughter and oldest child, while Daemon is his only son. Certainly, all three have a legitimate claim to the throne, and it’s fair to assume all hell will break loose between them following Visery’s demise.
Alicent Hightower checks in with favorable enough +300 House of the Dragon odds to sit on the Iron Throne in the first season. Alicent grew up in the Red Keep and has close ties to the king’s family, but it’s hard to see how she would factor into the succession plans.
One very interesting sleeper here is Otto Hightower. Hightower is Alicent’s father and the Hand of King Viserys. Otto is also described as a political rival of Daemon’s, which is a storyline with the potential to cause plenty of friction over the course of the first season.
At his current +1200 House of the Dragon betting odds to sit on the Iron Throne, Otto looks like an excellent value if you’re in the market for a long-shot wager with some upside.
Best Bets: Rhaenyra (+100) OR Otto Hightower (+1200)
Who Will Die in Season 1?
King Viserys Targaryen (-10000)
Grand Maester Mellos (-5000)
Lord Lyman Beesbury (-5000)
Ser Harrold Westerling (-5000)
Princess Rhaenys Velaryon (-2500)
Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (+120)
Alicent Hightower (+200)
Prince Daemon Targaryen (+200)
Prince Aegon Targaryen (+200)
Otto Hightower (+200)
Fans of the original Game of Thrones novels or TV series will remember that no character is safe. I watched the original series without having read the books, so, needless to say, the character turnover came as quite a surprise.
Most shows don’t kill off their main characters, but Game of Thrones is just built different, I guess.
Back then, I thought Ned Stark was in for the long haul, but that didn’t work out too well. Assuming House of the Dragon takes a similar approach, we can’t safely count on any of the series’ main characters to survive from one episode to the next.

The House of the Dragon betting odds say King Viserys is a near lock to die at some point in season one. Frankly, it’s hard to disagree. The whole premise of the show is to show us the chaos that ensues in the battle for the Iron Throne after his death, so he’s gotta die at some point pretty early on, I’d imagine.
Otherwise, we’re just guessing. It won’t be a huge shock if at least one of Aegon, Daemon, or Rhaenyra die at some point in their pursuit of the throne this season, but the fact that a second season is on the way could keep them alive a little longer.
Taking a stab at Aegon or Daemon to die at +200 House of the Dragon odds apiece isn’t the worst gamble given this franchise’s history with killing off primary characters.
Best Bets: Daemon or Aegon (+200)
