Ratchford pens new Warrington deal

Stefan Ratchford

Warrington Wolves (25/1 Grand Final Winner) full-back Stefan Ratchford has signed a two-year contract extension to the end of the 2024 season.

The 31-year-old has been a key player for Wire ever since joining from Salford in 2012.

In a decade at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, he has scored 83 tries in 290 appearances while also kicking 461 goals.

Ratchford has amassed over 1,500 points in his career and is ranked seventh on the all-time list for Warrington.

He has played in an array of positions including half-back and full-back, while he has also looked comfortable playing at centre.

Ratchford’s contract was due to expire at the end of the season and he had been linked with a move elsewhere.

However, the England international has chosen to stay at Warrington, although he has admitted there was a temptation to seek pastures new.

“With the way the season’s gone, I think Warrington have put pretty much everyone on hold to see what the craic was,” he said.

“It was a bit of a worrying time but I was quite lucky as I had interest from a few other clubs. That turned my head a little bit.

“When Warrington come in with their offer it made it that bit easier. The easy thing to do would have been to go elsewhere and look for a new challenge, but I had a good think about it and the right decision was to stay where I am and have been for so long.”

Warrington have also announced the signing of 18-year-old Matty Nicholson from Wigan Warriors.

The loose-forward, who can also play in the back row, scored two tries on his Betfred Super League debut at Huddersfield Giants last month.

Warrington are next in action on Sunday as they face Salford Red Devils at home (Match Betting – Warrington 2/5, Salford 2/1, tie 20/1).
