Rhinos star using England as inspiration

Betfred Super League Odds: JJB signs off with win

Leeds Rhinos front-row Mikolaj Oledzki says he wants to use his recent time spent away with England to help inspire him to improve his performances for the Betfred Super League club.

Oledzki is in contention to be named in the England World Cup squad for the autumn tournament, for which they are 7/1 to win, and he impressed when coming off the bench in last weekend’s 18-4 win over a Combined Nations All Stars team.

The 23-year-old says he enjoyed his time away on the international stage and wants to use it as a platform and hopes to now start to show what he can do for the Rhinos, who he readily admits have yet to see the best of him so far this season.

“The camp has been great, it was good to be with the lads for a week but I haven’t been firing on all cylinders, playing my best rugby for Leeds,” he said in the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“I am not hiding from that, I know there’s a lot of room for improvement in my game at the moment, but to be in the camp for a week with England I could re-energise myself and it was a chance to see what the prize is at the end of the year with the World Cup.

“I am going back boosted and with that motivation to get better and hopefully kick on to start playing better rugby.”

Oledzki is now back and focusing on club matters and has labelled Leeds’ trip to Betfred Super League leaders and defending champions St Helens on Thursday as a “must-win” clash.

The Rhinos sit down in eighth place in the table, 15 points adrift of Saints, and last time out were beaten heavily at Huddersfield Giants.

Oledzki is expecting another stiff examination against the leaders but hopes his side are up to it.

He added: “It [will be] another tough, physical game. It is a big game and a must-win for us, so there’s a big week ahead.”

St Helens are 1/5 to win on Thursday, Leeds are 18/5 and the tie is 22/1.
