Rowley believes Salford’s backs are up with the best

Betfred Super League Odds: Hodgson forced to tinker

Paul Rowley says the potency of his Salford (33/1 Grand Final Winner) back-line makes him believe they can take on anyone in the Betfred Super League.

The Red Devils moved back to within a point of sixth-placed Leeds, who won 28-20 at Hull KR on Friday, as they ran in six tries at the AJ Bell Stadium to beat Huddersfield 33-16 on Saturday.

Ken Sio, Kallum Watkins, Joe Burgess, Ryan Brierley and Tim Lafai crossed for Salford before Chris McQueen replied.

The hosts led 26-6 at the break but Sam Hewitt’s brace got the Giants back into the game, only for Harvey Livett to put extra gloss on the performance, with Marc Sneyd also chipping in with nine points.

Huddersfield had travelled down the M62 looking to take advantage of Catalans Dragons’ defeat at Castleford on Friday but failed to live with Paul Rowley’s side.

The Salford backs ran riot at times, with Sio’s try his 23rd of the season, while Burgess’ score saw him race in from 80 metres.

Rowley was quick to praise his flyers after Saturday’s win over the Giants (11/1 Grand Final Winner), with four of their tries scored by outside backs, although he admitted that his big men down the middle also played their part.

“We fully deserved the win against a good side. I couldn’t be happier really,” Rowley said.

“We’ve clearly got a back-line that’s as good as anything in the league.

“But I do think whilst we are aware of that, they’ll [the backs] will put the praise in the opposite direction to the middles and the people who connect them up in the spine.”

Salford are next in action on August 20 away at the Dragons, while Huddersfield host Castleford on Thursday.
