Wimbledon Betting Odds: Kyrgios given title backing

With Elena Rybakina crowned women’s champion on Saturday, all eyes are on the men’s prize on Sunday as Novak Djokovic aims to secure his seventh SW19 title against Australian Nick Kyrgios (Djokovic 1/4, Kyrgios 11/4 – Match Betting).

Novak Djokovic v Nick Kyrgios – Men’s Singles Final

The Serb has displayed why he is such a powerhouse in men’s tennis, particularly in his last two matches.

In the quarter-final, Djokovic was two sets down to Italian Jannick Sinner and it looked as though there was a genuine prospect he was to lose at the All England Club for the first time since 2017.

However, he summoned all the ability and strength that has seen him become a hero of the sport to win three sets to two.

Then, against home favourite Cameron Norrie, the top seed ultimately won comfortably despite trailing after losing the first set.

The only man now stood between him and a 21st Grand Slam title is the mercurial Nick Kyrgios, who has had an adventurous Wimbledon to say the least.

His fiery temper has landed him in trouble – most obviously when he was fined 4,000 dollars for an audible obscenity.

The 27-year-old has had some luck in getting to the final as Rafael Nadal’s abdominal injury meant he was given a walkover in the semi-finals.

Therefore, Kyrgios will be undoubtedly be feeling fresher than his opponent after playing one fewer game.

The Australian has admitted the nerves are being felt ahead of his first-ever Grand Slam final appearance – even though he actually has a winning record against Djokovic in competitive matches, having won both previous meetings without dropping a set in 2017.

“I’m very anxious and nervous,” Kyrgios said. “It’s something I’ve never had a chance to do before, play in a Slam final.

“I’ve been in a lot of finals in my career but this is the first time at Wimbledon, at a Grand Slam, the biggest tournament in the world. That’s what kept me up at night – the chance to play for the ultimate glory and become tennis immortality.”
