Today's Horse Racing Odds: Monday 7th March

Following the excitement of the Cheltenham Festival, it’s a quiet start to this week with three meetings taking place on Monday afternoon in the UK.

Southwell, Wincanton and Plumpton host events, with the first race due off at Southwell at 13:00, where there are seven contests in total until the last one at 16:30.

Betfred’s ‘Free Bet If Second’ promotion is available in the penultimate race at 15:55 and then in the finale at 16:30, Betfred are paying four places as part of their ‘Extra Place’ promotion.

In that final race Train Hill (10/3) should be in the mix as he returns to action for the first time since September.

He was last seen finishing second in a Uttoxeter handicap hurdle and, at just a 1lb higher, this looks a great chance for victory. Others expected to challenge include Hillview (3/1) and Miss M (13/2).

Wincanton’s eight-race card gets under way at 13:45 and finishes up after the 17:40.

The opener at the Somerset track is another of Betfred’s ‘Extra Place’ races, paying three places, and it’s one Eros (11/4) will hope to finally register a victory in.

The eight-year-old strung together three third-placed finishes in December and January and was then second here last time out at the start of the month to suggest a win is imminent.

Plumpton has just six races this afternoon, starting at 13:55 and ending with the 16:50, in which Sword Beach (7/4) catches the eye.

A three-time Flat winner for Eve Johnson Houghton, he has since had three hurdle outings for Alan King and makes his handicap debut rated only 11lb higher than his Flat mark.

Others to note include Hackbridge (2/1) and Systemic (5/1).
